I have found my treasure!

After looking for months, I have finally found my vanity for our master bathroom.  We basically had two rules: 1. must have 2 sinks, and 2. it must have a column of drawers in the middle.  We wanted something that was practical, but yet beautiful.

We wanted something that had the feel of an older piece of furniture.  Check it out!

We will put the sinks on each side.  It is hard to see in this photo, but there is highlights of silver on all of the woodwork.  It is absolutely breathtaking in the sunlight!  It also came with a mirror, which I can re-purpose and hang on the wall in another room.

Now all I have to do is find the perfect sinks for this beauty, and the faucets to go with it.  And, I need to decide how I want to protect the top.  Any suggestions?

New Skylight

Goodbye Carpet!

The walls are officially gutted! YEA!!!!  Except for one little closet that we were not going to do, but have decided to do, in order to put in a second laundry room, so we can have one on the second floor.  It was the only place we were leaving plaster, so it serves us right for being lazy and trying to cut a corner!

We were so excited about being done with the plaster removal, we celebrated by cleaning it all up and removing the carpet in the master bedroom and the landing.  The floors are so gorgeous!

We also worked on the layout of the bathroom.  We have been trying to figure out how we want to lay out the master bath.  With everything out of there, we were able to tape off everything where it would be to see if it would all fit.  It is a go!  The floor in the bathroom does not look as nice, but we are putting in tile anyways, so it just gives us extra planks to fill in bad flooring in other places if it is needed. 

An even more exciting tidbit of news is that we have a clawfoot tub to go in that nice little space in the photo above on the left side!  It is the perfect size, and I got a great deal on it.  I will have to purchase a set of claw feet, and re-finish it, but for only $75, what do you expect! 

 

Roger is coming down this weekend to help Mitchell remove the middle, unused fireplace.  We have no use for it, and it is just taking up space, so they are going to remove it before the roof is put on next week.  I know we need rain, but let's say a prayer that we don't get rain Monday or Tuesday so that we can get the roof on so we can remove the lovely swimming pool from our attic!

What would your house say?

While we were working on the house this weekend, many thoughts were going through my mind. 

Who were the people who lived there before us?  What kind of memories were made there? 

Little things like the cloth diaper we found in the ceiling bring these thoughts to mind.  How many children were raised in this house?  How did they do it without central heat and air?  And only one full bathroom?  WOW! 

While I was vacuuming off the wallpaper (yes, vacuuming) I wondered why they chose the patterns they chose.  I imagined a husband a wife at the local department store picking it out.  Do you think they argued about it, or the wife just picked it out herself? 

I guess we can say that with any house we live in.  I wonder many things about our Edmond house as well.  Silly things like why did they decide to put carpet in the bathrooms (which we had to remove) and why did they put in so much white tile- it's so hard to keep clean!

I just wish that the walls could talk and tell us the stories of previous tenants. At least we have lots of little treasures to help share the stories.

You Light up my life

This last month has been very productive, which is why we have not written!

I have made several acquisitions for the house- mostly in the lighting department.

This is from Walt's Farmhouse.  Martha and Walt are giving it to us! It is going in the Dining room.

The tile we purchased at Renovation Station for only $.59 per Sq ft. This will go in all 3 bathrooms, the kitchen utility, and breakfast nook.

2 Light fixtures for the bathroom, for only $15 each at Renovation Station. I may paint them white.

Beautiful light fixture I purchased at the Bethany Antique mall.  It was originally priced for like $150 and I was able to get it for $80!  I am planning on placing it in the master bath.

I am very excited about where we are at on the house.  We are done gutting it, and are waiting on getting the roof put on.  Mitchell is working on the plans for the electrical and plumbing to get the license.

I have also purchased the clawfoot tub for the master bath, but do not have a photo.  I really liked it because it was smaller than most- measuring only 4 1/2 foot, rather than 5 or 6 feet.

Plan, Plan, Plan!

Because we have not been able to work on the house the last couple of weeks because of travel, I have taken advantage of the time to plan, and get some things for the house figured out.

We have picked out our kitchen cabinets and granite.  I am very excited about this.  The cabinets are a medium to dark wood, and the granite will be a lighter color. 

We have also bought our kitchen sink.  This was very challenging because we wanted an apron sink, but they are hard to find and very expensive.  Thankfully, we found one at Ikea that was very reasonably priced, and beautiful. 

Mitchell is working on getting quotes for the roof, so hopefully we can get it on there soon!  After that we can get new windows!  How exciting!

It seems that our new home away from home is now Home Depot.  We spend so much time there in the evenings.  I never thought I would like those kind of places, but it is now my favorite store!  We are officially grown ups now!

Slowly but Surely

We have not posted in a little while, because there is not a lot of progress to talk about.  We almost have the upstairs addition and roof of the breakfast nook and utility complete.  Mitchell is getting quotes rounded up for the roof, so hopefully we can get this house enclosed!  Once that is done, we can start with electrical and plumbing.  I am exceptionally excited about this, because that means that I won't have to run to the dirty quick stop every time I have to potty. 

I am working on the floor plans for the kitchen and bathrooms.  Any suggestions on things to think about when doing this is greatly appreciated!  Just post a comment below!
